The correct answer is option 2 i.e. 52.

a + 1/(a + 1) = 3

⇒ (a + 1) + 1/(a + 1) = 4

⇒ (a + 1)3 + 1/(a + 1)3 = [(a + 1) + 1/(a + 1)]3 - 3[(a + 1) + 1/(a + 1)]

= 43 - 3 × 4

= 64 - 12

= 52
