If 3cos2θ - 4sinθ + 1 = 0, 0° < θ < 90°, then the value of 3cos2 θ +5tan2 θ will be:

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: B

Explanation

The correct answer is option 2 i.e. 5235\frac{2}{3}.

3cos2θ\theta - 4sinθ\theta + 1 = 0

⇒ 3( 1 -  sin2θ\theta ) - 4sinθ\theta + 1 = 0

⇒ 3 -  3sin2θ\theta - 4sinθ\theta + 1 = 0

⇒ 3sin2θ\theta  +  4sinθ\theta - 4 = 0

⇒ 3sin2θ\theta + 6sinθ\theta - 2sinθ\theta - 4 = 0

⇒ 3sinθ\theta (sinθ\theta  + 2) - 2(sinθ\theta + 2) = 0

⇒ (3 sinθ\theta  - 2)( sinθ\theta + 2) = 0

⇒ sinθ\theta = 232 \over 3;  sinθ\theta = -2 (Not possible)

Now, P = 2 and H = 3

So, B = 5\sqrt{5}

Then,  3cos2θ\theta + 5tan2 θ\theta = 3×59+5×453 \times {5 \over 9} + 5 \times {4 \over 5} = 53+4{5 \over 3} + 4 = 5235\frac{2}{3}

Hence, the required answer is 5235\frac{2}{3}.
