SSC CPO 2024 PYQ — Question 117

SSC CPO 2024 - 27th June 2024 - Shift 1 • Quantitative Aptitude • Q117

How many metres of cloth will be required to make a conical tent, the radius of whose base is 21 metres and height is 28 metres? The width of the cloth is 5 metres. (where π = 22/7)

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: B

Explanation

The correct answer is Option 2 i.e. 462.

We know that,

The curved surface area of the cone = πrl

where, r = radius, l = slant height

⇒ l = r2+h2\sqrt{r^2+h^2}

⇒ l = 212+282\sqrt{21^2+28^2}

⇒ l = 441+784\sqrt {441+784}

⇒ l = 1225\sqrt{1225}

⇒ l = 35 m

Now,

⇒ CSA = πrl

⇒ 22/7 × 21 × 35

⇒ 22 × 3 × 35 = 2310 m2

Since the cloth is 5 meters wide, so

Length of cloth required to cover the entire surface area = CSA/width of cloth

⇒ 2310/5 = 462 m

Thus, 462 meters of cloth will be required to make the conical tent
