SSC CGL Tier II Quant - 09/03/2018 • Quantitative Aptitude • Q47

Height of a tower is 120 metres. The angle of elevation of the top of tower from a point B is 75°. Point B is on the ground level. What is the distance (in metres) of point B from the base of tower?

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: A

Explanation

The correct answer is Option 1 i.e. 120(2 − √3)

Application

From the figure:

Tan75 = 120/Base

Base = 120/Tan75

= 120/[(√3 + 1)/(√3 – 1)]

= 120 × [(4 – 2√3)/(3 – 1)]

= 120(2 – √3)
