From the given numbers A, B, C and D, which number is NOT divisible by 11?

A = 712712
B = 177210
C = 64614
D = 756148

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: B

Explanation

The correct answer is option 2 i.e. D.

A number is divisible by 11 if the difference between the sum of its digits in odd positions and the sum of its digits in even positions is either 0 or a multiple of 11.

A = 712712

The sum of digits at odd places = 7 + 2 + 1 = 10

The sum of digits at even places = 1 + 7 + 2 = 10

Difference = 10 - 10 = 0

Thus, A is divisible by 11.

B = 177210

The sum of digits at odd places = 1 + 7 + 1 = 9

The sum of digits at even places = 7 + 2 + 0 = 9

Difference = 9 - 9 = 0

Thus, B is divisible by 11.

C = 64614

The sum of digits at odd places = 6 + 6 + 4 = 16

The sum of digits at even places = 4 + 1 = 5

Difference = 16 - 5 = 11

Thus, C is divisible by 11.

D = 756148

The sum of digits at odd places = 7 + 6 + 4 = 17

The sum of digits at even places = 5 + 1 + 8 = 14

Difference = 17 - 14 = 3

Thus, D is not divisible by 11.

Therefore, 756148 (D) is not divisible by 11.
