Distribution of 1800 students in grades has been shown in the following pie chart .
In which two grades taken together is the number of students 54 less tha the number of students in grades B and E taken together ?

Show answer & explanation
Correct answer: A
Explanation
The correct answer is option 1 i.e. C and E
Solution :
The number of students in grade A = 30% of 1800 = 540
The number of students in grade B = 27% of 1800 = 486
The number of students in grade C = 24% of 1800 = 432
The number of students in grade D = 11% of 1800 = 198
The number of students in grade E = 8% of 1800 = 144
The sum of number of students in B and E taken together = 486 + 144 = 630
Now 54 less than 630 = 576
Therefore from the above equations, C + E = 576.
Hence C and E are the grades whose sum of number of students is 54 less than the sum of number of students of B and E.
