Choose the most appropriate word to fill in blank number 4

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: D

Explanation

The correct answer is option 3, i.e. Soon.

Context: The sentence is telling us about the time something happened — the youngsters jumped into the river, and then something else happened (they were caught in the current). So, we need to use a word that will show the meaning that the youths were caught in the current just after the first incident.

Meaning of the words:
After – shows something happening later
If – shows a condition
When – shows something happening at the same time or immediately after
Soon – shows something happening shortly

Correct word: Soon

Reason:
The youngsters were caught in the current just after they jumped into the river. So the correct word that fits the meaning and the sentence flow is “Soon.”

Final Sentence: Soon they were caught in the fast current.

Hence, the chosen option is correct.
