A water tank is shaped like a composite prism: the bottom part is a triangular prism with base area 60 cm2 and height 1.2 m, while the top part is a rectangular prism with base 40 cm × 30 cm and height 0.8 m. What is the total volume of the tank in liters? (1 m3 = 1000 L)

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: A

Explanation

The correct answer is option 1 i.e. 103.2 L.

Bottom:

Base area of triangular prism = 60 cm2

Height = 1.2 m = 120 cm

Volume = Base area × Height = 60 × 120 = 7200 cm3

Top:

Base area of rectangular prism = 40 × 30 = 1200 cm2

Height = 0.8 m = 80 cm

Volume = Base area × Height = 1200 × 80 = 96000 cm3

Total volume = 7200 + 96000 = 103200 cm3 = 103.2 L
