A shopkeeper gives two successive discounts on a watch marked ₹2,750. The first discount given is 10%. If the customer pays ₹2,103.75 for the watch, then what is the second discount?

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: A

Explanation

The correct answer is option 1 i.e. 15%

Given:

M.P. = ₹2,750

S.P. = ₹2,103.75

D1 = 10%

Concept Used:

S.P. = M.P.×(100−D1)100×(100−D2)100M.P. \times {(100 - D_1) \over 100} \times {(100 - D_2) \over 100}  ...(i)

Explanation:

Let the second discount be D2

Putting the givan values in equation (i), we get

2,103.75 = 2,750×(100−10)100×(100−D2)1002,750 \times {(100 - 10) \over 100} \times {(100 - D_2) \over 100}

⇒ 2103.752750=90100×(100−D2)100{2103.75 \over 2750} = {90 \over 100} \times {(100 - D_2) \over 100}

⇒ (100−D2)100(100 - D_2)\over 100 = 0.85

⇒ 100 - D2 = 85

⇒ D2 = 15

Hence the value of second discount is 15%.
