A shopkeeper bought certain number of apples for Rs.3,600. He sold one-fifth of them at a loss of 10%, one-fourth of the remaining apples at a loss of 5%, and two-third of the rest at a profit of 15%. At what price (in Rs.) should he sell the remaining apples to earn a profit of 27% overall?
Show answer & explanation
Correct answer: B
Explanation
The correct answer is option 2 i.e. 1584.
Let the price of each apple be Rs1.
Number of apples = 3600
According to the given question,
3600 × (1/5) × (-10) + 2880 × (1/4) × (-5) + 2160 × (2/3) × 15 + 720x = 3600 × 27
⇒ -7200 - 3600 + 21600 + 720x = 97200
⇒ 10800 + 720x = 97200
⇒ 720x = 86400
⇒ x = 120
SP of remaining apples = 720 × 220%
⇒ 72 × 22 = 1584
