SSC CGL - 21 April 2022 - Shift 2 • Quantitative Aptitude • Q63

A person's salary was increased by 50% and subsequently decreased by 50%. How much percentage does he lose or gain?

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: C

Explanation

The correct answer is option 3 i.e. Loss of 25%

Given:

A person's salary was increased by 50% and subsequently decreased by 50%.

Concept Used:

Decrease in salary = Original salary - Final salary

Explanation:

Let the original salary be Rs.100.

According to the question -

New salary = 100 + 50% of 100 = Rs.150

The salary was decreased by 50%.

Final salary = 150 - 50% of 150 = 75

Decrease in salary = 100 - 75 = 25

Required percentage = (25100)({25\over 100}) × 100 = 25%

Hence his loss is 25%.
