A is 60% more than B and C is 45% less than twice the sum of B and A. By what percentage is C more than A?

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: C

Explanation

The correct answer is option 3 i.e. 78.75.

Since A is 60% more than B:

A = B + 60 %  of  B = B + 0.6B = 1.6B

Since C is 45% less than twice the sum of B and A,

C = 2 ( A + B ) − 45 %  of   2 ( A + B )

⇒  C = 2 ( 1.6B + B ) − 0.45 × 2 ( 1.6B + B )

⇒C=2(2.6B)−0.45×2(2.6B)=5.2B−0.45×5.2B=5.2B−2.34B=2.86B C = 2(2.6B) - 0.45 \times 2(2.6B) = 5.2B - 0.45 \times 5.2B = 5.2B - 2.34B = 2.86B

Percentage increase  =  C−AA×100=2.86B−1.6B1.6B×100=1.26B1.6B×100\frac{C - A}{A} \times 100 = \frac{2.86B - 1.6B}{1.6B} \times 100 = \frac{1.26B}{1.6B} \times 100

⇒ 1.261.6×100=0.7875×100=78.75%\frac{1.26}{1.6} \times 100 = 0.7875 \times 100 = 78.75\%
