If the farm had either pigeons or horses and nothing else, how many horses were there on the farm? On the farm, each horse had four legs and each pigeon had two legs.

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: A

Explanation

The correct answer is option 1 i.e. 20.

Let horses = x

Then pigeons = 40 − x

According to the question,

⇒ 4x + 2(40 − x) = 120

⇒ 4x + 80 − 2x = 120

⇒ 2x = 40

⇒ x = 20 horses
