A circle is inscribed in a quadrilateral ABCD touching sides AB, BC, CD and AD at the points P, Q, R and S, respectively. If BP = 4 cm, SD = 6 and BC = 7 cm, then the length of DC is:

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: D

Explanation

Correct Answer is option 4 i.e. 9 cm

Concept

Understanding

Application

Length of tangents drawn from common external point to a circle are equal.

Given

BP = 4 cm,

SD = 6 cm

BC = 7 cm

From the given concept:

DR = SD = 6 cm

QB = PB = 4 cm

QC = BC – QB = 7 – 4 = 3 cm

RC = QC = 3 cm

DC = DR + RC = 6 + 3 = 9 cm
