A certain sum becomes Rs.13650 at 15% p.a; simple interest after 2 years. What will be the amount (in Rs.) of the same sum after 1 year at the same rate of interest, if the interest is compounded half-yearly? (nearest to Rs.)

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: A

Explanation

The correct answer is Option 1 i.e 12134.

Here it is given that the sum becomes ₹13650 at 15% pa simple interest in 2 years

It implies that the sum becomes 130% percent of itself

Principal = 13650/1.3 = Rs.10500

As one knows that the in case of half-yearly the rate becomes half

1 year = 2 half years

The same sum after 1 year at 15% compounded half-yearly becomes,

⇒10500×(1+7.5100)2⇒10500×1.075×1.075⇒₹12134.\Rightarrow 10500 \times( 1 + \frac{7.5}{100})^2 \\\Rightarrow10500 \times1.075 \times1.075 \\ \Rightarrow ₹ 12134.
