80% of the combined average production of companies B and C is what percentage (to the nearest integer) more/less than 90% of the average production of company A, for the given period of 2012 to 2017?

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: D

Explanation

The correct answer is Option 4 i.e. 19% less.

The combined average production of companies B and C in all 6 years = (130 + 70)/2 + (80 + 90)/2 + (70 + 120)/2 + (90 + 80)/2 + (180 + 110)/2 + (80 + 140)/2

⇒ 100 + 85 + 95 + 85 + 145 + 110 = 620

80% of the combined average production of companies B and C = 620/6 × 80/100 = 82.66

The sum of the production of company A = 100 + 90 + 160 + 150 + 70 + 110 = 680

90% of the average production of company A = 680/6 × 90/100 = 102

Hence,

Required percentage = (102 - 82.66)/102 × 100 = 19%
