SSC CGL - 25 Sep 2024 - Shift 3 • Quantitative Aptitude • Q54

'x' varies directly with the cube of 'y', and inversely with the square of 'z'. If x =1361\over{36}when y = 2 and z = 3, then what is the value of 800x when y = 3 and z = 5?

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: B

Explanation

The correct answer is option 2 i.e. 27.

x ∝ y3z2\frac{y^3}{z^2}

So, x = ky3z2\frac{y^3}{z^2} (where k is the constant)

x = 1361\over{36}, y = 2 and z = 3

⇒ 1361\over{36} = k2332\frac{2^3}{3^2} = k89\frac 8 9

⇒ k = 1321\over{32}

⇒ x = 1321\over{32}y3z2\frac{y^3}{z^2}

Put the value y = 3 and z = 5,

x = 1321\over{32}× 3352\frac{3^3}{5^2}= 1321\over{32}× 2725\frac{27}{25} = 27800\frac{27}{800}

⇒ 800x = 27
