X is 7th from the top while Y is 16th from the bottom in the class ranking. If they interchange their positions, then X becomes 21st from the top. What will be the position of Y from the bottom?

Explanation

The correct answer is Option 3 i.e 30th​​​​​.

Position of X from top = 7th

So, above him/her there are 6 students.

Position of Y from the bottom = 16th

So, below him/her there are 15 students.

Now, they interchange the positions, and X is 21st from the top.

So, above X there are 20 persons and 6 persons above Y.

So, no of person in between them = 20 - 6 - Y = 20 - 6 - 1 = 13

So, the position of Y from the bottom = 15 + X + 13 + Y = 15 + 1 + 13 + 1 = 30
