X is 5 years older than Y. The total of the current ages of X and Y is 33 years. What will be the age of Y after 7 years?

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: B

Explanation

The correct answer is Option 2 i.e. 21 years

Let the present ages of X and Y be A and B years.

X is 5 years older than Y

⇒ A = B + 5

The total sum of the current ages of X and Y is 33 years.

⇒ A + B = 33

⇒ B + 5 + B = 33

⇒ 2B = 33 - 5

⇒ 2B = 28

⇒ B = 14

The present age of Y = 14 years

Age of Y after 7 years = 14 + 7 = 21 years

Hence, Option 2 is the correct answer.
