SSC CGL - 9th March 2020 Shift 1 • Quantitative Aptitude • Q52

X and Y are two stations that are 280 km apart. A train starts at a certain time from X and travels towards Y at 60 km/h. After 2 hours, another train starts from Y and travels towards X at 20 km/h. After how many hours does the train leaving from X meet the train which left from Y?

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: A

Explanation

The correct answer is option 1 i.e 4 hours

Total distance = 280 किमी

Train from X covers a distance = 60 × 2

⇒ 120 km

The rest distance = 280 - 120 = 160 km

The speed of the train from station Y = 20 kmph

The relative speed of both the train combined = 60 + 20

⇒ 80 kmph

⇒Time = distance / speed

⇒ Time = 160 / 80

⇒ 2 hours

Total time = 2 + 2 = 4 hours
