While playing cards, a man loses 75% of his money in the first round, 75% of the remaining in the second round, and 75% of the remaining in the third round. If he is left with Rs. 100, how much money does he have initially?

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: A

Explanation

The correct answer is option 1 i.e. Rs. 6,400.

Let initial money = 1000x

Remaining after 1st round = 250x

Remaining after 2nd = 25/100 × 250x = 62.5x

Remaining after 3rd round = 25/100 × 62.5x = 15.625x

15.625x = 100

⇒ x = 100/15.625 = 6.4

Initial money = 1000x = 1000 × 6.4 = 6400
