Which two signs should be interchanged to make the following equation correct?

13 × 2 − (8 ÷ 4) + (4 × 1) = 24

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: B

Explanation

The correct answer is option 2 i.e. + and –.

Given equation: 13 × 2 − (8 ÷ 4) + (4 × 1) = 24

Option 1: + and ÷

After interchanging the expression becomes:

= 13 × 2 − (8 + 4) ÷ (4 × 1) = 24

= 13 × 2 − 12 ÷ 4

= 13 × 2 − 3

= 23 is not equal to 24.

Option 2: + and –

After interchanging the expression becomes:

= 13 × 2 + (8 ÷ 4) - (4 × 1) = 24

= 13 × 2 + 2 - 4

= 26 + 2 - 4

= 24 is equal to 24.

As we have found our answer, there is no need to check further options.

Hence, option 2 is the correct answer.
