Which two signs need to be interchanged to make the following equation correct?

16 ÷ 32 × 128 + 9 – 17 = – 4

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: C

Explanation

The correct answer is option 3 i.e. × and ÷.

Given equation: 16 ÷ 32 × 128 + 9 – 17 = – 4

Option 1: × and –

After interchanging the expression becomes:

= 16 ÷ 32 - 128 + 9 × 17 = – 4

= 25.5 is not equal to -4.

Option 2: ÷ and +

After interchanging the expression becomes:

= 16 + 32 × 128 ÷ 9 – 17 = – 4

= 454.11 is not equal to -4.

Option 3: × and ÷

After interchanging the expression becomes:

= 16 × 32 ÷ 128 + 9 – 17 = – 4

= -4 is equal to -4.

As we have found our answer, so, there is no need of checking other options.

Hence, option 3 is the correct answer.
