Which folk music is a mix of Indian and western music and is popular in Goa?
Show answer & explanation
Correct answer: A
Explanation
The correct answer is option 1 i.e. Mando.
A popular form of folk music in Goa that blends Indian and Western musical styles is Goan Mando. This genre is a unique fusion of Indian melodies and Western harmonies, especially influenced by Portuguese music, owing to Goa's colonial history. Mando is traditionally performed during weddings and festive occasions, often accompanied by instruments like the violin, guitar, and ghumot (a traditional Goan percussion instrument). The songs are usually sung in Konkani, the local language, and express themes of love, sorrow, and Goan social life.
