SSC CPO 2020 PYQ — Question 117

SSC CPO - 25 Nov 2020 - Shift 2 • Quantitative Aptitude • Q117

When a number is successively divided by 3, 4 and 7 , the remaining obtained is 2,3 and 5, respectively, What will be the remainder when 42 divides the same number ?

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: D

Explanation

The correct answer is Option 4 i.e. 29.

Dividend = (Divisor x Quotient) + Remainder

Calculation:

Let x be the number

Let y and z be the quotients

Dividend = (Divisor x Quotient) + Remainder

⇒ z = 7 × 1 + 5 = 12

⇒ y = 4 × z + 3 = 51

⇒ x = 3xy + 2 = 155

On dividing 155 by 42 = 42 × 3 + 29

So, 29 will be the remainder
