When a number is divided by 45, the remainder is 21. What will be the remainder when the number is divided by 15?

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: A

Explanation

The correct answer is option 1 i.e. 6.

Given that

The number leaves the remaining 21 when divided by 45

Let the number be A

Using the Remainder theorem we get

A = 45x + 21

Now when this number is divided by 15,

45x+2115=45x15+2115\frac{45x+21}{15} = \frac{45x}{15} + \frac{21}{15}

Since 45 is completely divisible by 15, we get the remainder as 21 - 15 = 6
