What sum of money should be invested to earn a simple interest of Rs.5,040 in 3 years and 6 months at a 12% rate of interest per annum?

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: D

Explanation

The correct answer is option 4 i.e. Rs.12,000.

Concept Used :

 S.I.=P×R×T100S.I. = {P × R × T \over 100}

P=S.I.×100R×TP = {S.I.×100 \over R × T}

Given that :

S.I. = Rs.5,040

⇒ R = 12%

⇒ T = 3 years and 6 months = 3123{1\over 2} = 7/2 years = 3.5 years

Now,

⇒ P = (5040 × 100)/(12 × 3.5)

⇒ P = 120 × 100 = 12,000

Hence the required principal is Rs.12,000.
