Two vessels, A and B, contain spirit and water in the ratio 3 : 4 and 5 : 3, respectively. Find the ratio in which these two mixtures be mixed to obtain a new mixture in vessel C containing spirit and water in the ratio 4 : 3.

The correct answer is option 4 i.e 3 : 8.

Vessel A: Spirit : Water = 3 : 4 

Vessel B: Spirit : Water = 5 : 3

Vessel C with Spirit : Water = 4 : 3

in fraction:- 

Vessel A = 33+4=37 \frac{3}{3+4} = \frac{3}{7}

Vessel B = 55+3=58\frac{5}{5+3} = \frac{5}{8}

Vessel C (desired) = 44+3=47\frac{4}{4+3} = \frac{4}{7}

Ratio of A : B = (5/8−4/7)(4/7−3/7) \frac{(5/8 - 4/7)}{(4/7 - 3/7)} = A : B = (3/56)/( 1/7) ​= 3/56 ​× 7​ = 21/56 ​ = 3/8 = 3 : 8​
