SSC CGL 2023 PYQ — Question 69

SSC CGL - 20 July 2023 - Shift 1 • Quantitative Aptitude • Q69

Two trains of length 130 m and 120 m are running on parallel lines in the same direction at a speed of 40 km/h and 50 km/h, respectively. In how much time will they pass each other?

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: D

Explanation

The correct answer is Option 4 i.e. 90 sec.

Length of first train, T1 = 130 m

Speed of first train, S1  = 40 km/h

Length of second train, T2 = 120 m

Speed of second train, S2 = 50 km/h

Relative speed of trains moving in same direction = Difference between the speeds of the two trains

Trains are running in the same direction

Relative speed = Speed of second train - Speed of first train = 50 - 40 = 10 km/h

⇒ 10 × 5185\over 18 = 25925\over 9 m/sec

Time = distancespeeddistance\over speed = (130+120)259(130 + 120)\over {25\over 9}= 250/25/9 = 90 sec
