SSC CPO 2023 PYQ — Question 139

SSC CPO - 05 Oct 2023 - Shift 1 • Quantitative Aptitude • Q139

Two trains Mumbai Rajdhani and Kissan Express of lengths 850 m and 700 m respectively are 1050 m apart and are running on parallel tracks towards each other. Mumbai Rajdhani is running at 62 km/h and Kissan Express is running at 55 km/h. In how much time (in sec) will the trains cross each other?

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: D

Explanation

The correct answer is option 4 i.e. 80 sec

Length of Mumbai Rajdhani = 850 m

Length of Kissan Express = 700 m

Speed of Mumbai Rajdhani = 62 km/h

Speed of Kissan Express = 55 km/h

Distance between two trains = 1050 m

Relative speed of two trains running in opposite direction = (Speed of first train + Speed of second train)

Time = DistanceSpeed{Distance}\over Speed

According to the question

The relative speed of trains = (Speed of Mumbai Rajdhani) + (Speed of Kissan Express)

⇒ 62 + 55 = 117 km/h

⇒117 × 5185\over18 = 65265\over2 m/s

Total distance travelled by trains during crossing each other (850 + 700 +1050) = 2600 m

Hence, the time to cross the trains each other is given by

⇒ 26006522600\over{65\over2} = 80 sec
