Two trains A and B of lengths 190 m and 195 m are running at speeds of 56 km/h and 76 km/h, respectively, towards each other on parallel tracks. In how much time will they cross each other?

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: D

Explanation

The correct answer is option 4 i.e. 10.5 seconds.

The length of the train A = 190 m

The length of the train B = 195 m

The speed of the train A (x) = 56 km/h

The speed of the train B (y) = 76 km/h

The relative speed of the trains when they cross opposite to each other = (x + y) km/h

Time=Distancerelative speedTime = {Distance\over relative\ speed}

As we know that

The relative speed = x + y = 56 + 76 = 132 km/h

⇒ 132 × 5/18 = (660/18) m/s

Now, the time taken can be calculated as:

⇒ (190 + 195)/(660/18) = (385 × 18)/660 = 10.5 sec
