Two stations are 120 km apart on a straight line. A train starts from station A at 8 a.m. and moves towards station B at 20 km/h, and another train starts from station B at 9 a.m. and travels towards station A at a speed of 30 km/h. At what time will they meet?

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: C

Explanation

The correct answer is option 3 i.e. 11:00 a.m.

Given

A train starts from station A at 8 a.m.

another train starts from station B at 9 a.m.

The speeds of both trains are 20 and 30 km/h respectively

A train starts from station A and covers the distance in one hour (8 to 9 am) = 20 km

As we know that

Meeting time = Distance between them/Relative speeds

= (120 - 20)/(20 + 30) = 100/50 = 2 hours

Hence, Both trains meet at = 9 am + 2 hours = 11 am
