SSC CGL - 7th June 2019 - Shift 3 • Reasoning • Q83

Two statements are given, followed by three conclusions numbered I, II and III. Assuming the statements to be true even if they seem to be at variance with commonly known facts, decide which of the conclusions logically follow(s) from the statements.

Statements:

I. Some quadrilaterals are squares.

II. All squares are rhombuses.

Conclusions:

I. No quadrilateral is a rhombus.

II. All rhombuses are squares.

III. Some quadrilaterals are rhombuses.

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: D

Explanation

The correct answer is option 4 i.e Only conclusion III follows.

Understanding

The least possible Venn diagram is shown below:

Conclusions:

I. No quadrilateral is a rhombus: False (Some quadrilateral are square and All square are rhombus, so definitely some quadrilateral are rhombus is true).

II. All rhombuses are squares: False (This is possible but not definite).

III. Some quadrilaterals are rhombuses: True (Some quadrilateral are square and All square are rhombus, so definitely some quadrilateral are rhombus is true).

Hence,  Only conclusion III follows.
