SSC CPO - 9 Nov 2022 - Shift 1 • Reasoning • Q191

Two statements are given followed by three conclusions numbered I, II, and III. Assuming the statements to be true, even if they seem to be at variance with commonly known facts, decide which of the conclusions logically follow(s) from the statements.

Statements:

All coffees and milkshakes are teas.

None of the coffees are milkshakes.

Conclusions:

I. Some coffees are milkshakes.

II. Some teas are coffees

III. Some milkshakes are teas.

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: A

Explanation

The correct answer is Option 1 i.e. Only conclusions II and III follow.

The least possible Venn Diagram for the given statements is drawn below:

Conclusions:

I. Some coffees are milkshakes → False (As none of the coffees are milkshakes, so, no positive conclusion can be drawn.)

II. Some teas are coffees → True (As all coffees and milkshakes are teas, so, some teas are coffees is also true.)

III. Some milkshakes are teas → True (As all coffees and milkshakes are teas, so, some milkshakes  are coffees is also true.)

Hence, Only conclusions II and III follow.
