Two numbers are in the ratio of 4 : 9. If the mean proportional between them is 24, find the positive difference between the two numbers.

Explanation

The correct answer is Option 1 i.e. 20.

Let the numbers be 4x and 9x
Mean proportional = 4x×9x=6x\sqrt{4x \times 9x} = 6x

6x=24

x = 4

Now, numbers = 4x = 16, 9x = 36 

Difference = 36−16 = 20
