SSC CGL 2023 PYQ — Question 58

SSC CGL - 25 July 2023 - Shift 3 • Quantitative Aptitude • Q58

Two circles touch each other externally. The radius of the first circle with centre O is 6 cm. The radius of the second circle with centre P is 3 cm. Find the length of their common tangent AB.

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: D

Explanation

The correct answer is option 4 i.e. 6√2 cm.

Given that, Radius of bigger circle, r1 = 6 cm and Radius of smaller circle, r2 =3 cm

When two Circles touch each other externally,

The length of common tangent AB = 2r1×r22\sqrt{r_1 \times r_2}= 2 × 6×3\sqrt{6×3} = 62\sqrt{2} cm

Hence, the length of common tangent AB = 62\sqrt{2} cm
