Total savings = 40% of total income

Average expenditure = ₹21,000
⇒ Total expenditure = ₹21,000 × 2 = ₹42,000

Let total combined income be x.

Then savings = 40% of x = 0.4x

So, expenditure = remaining 60% of income = 0.6x
