Three numbers are in the ratio 12:23:34\frac{1}{2}:\frac{2}{3}:\frac{3}{4}. If the difference between the greatest number and the smallest number is 33, then HCF of the three numbers is:

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: D

Explanation

The correct answer is option 4 i.e. 11.

Let the three numbers be a, b and c.

a : b : c = 12:23:34\frac{1}{2}:\frac{2}{3}:\frac{3}{4}

Multiply the ratio by the LCM of (2, 3 , 4), 12 we get,

a : b : c = 6 : 8 : 9.

The difference between the greatest number and the smallest number is 33,

9x - 6x = 33

3x = 33

x = 11.

one can see that in the ratio we don't have any common part.

Now we know the value of x. Only x is common in the ratio. The HCF of all three numbers = 11.
