SSC CHSL 2020 PYQ — Question 70

SSC CHSL - 20th October 2020 - Shift 2 • Quantitative Aptitude • Q70

There are three points A, B and C on the circle. If AB = AC = 7√(2) cm and ∠BAC = 90o, then find the radius  of the circle.

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: B

Explanation

The correct answer is Option 2 i.e. 7 cm.

Understanding/Application

∠BAC = 90

The angle subtended by the diameter at any point on the circle is 90º

BC is the diameter subtending 90º at A.

AB = AC = 7√(2) cm

Let the radius of the circle be r.

Acc. to the question -

r2 + r2 = (7√(2))2

2r2 = 49(2)

r2 = 49

r = 7 cm
