Let the five numbers be:
A, B, C, D, E
Average = 72 → Total sum = 72 × 5 = 360

Also given:
A = (1/5)(B + C + D + E)

But B + C + D + E = 360 - A

A = 1/5 (360−A)

5A = 360 - A

6A = 360

A = 60
