According to the given question, 

cosec 30° = $1 \over \sin 30 ^\circ$ 

⇒ $1 \over { 1 \over 2}$ = 2

cos 60° = ½

Now, cosec 30° − cos 60° = 2 - ½

⇒ $3 \over 2$

Hence the required answer is $3 \over 2$.
