Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: A

Explanation

The correct answer is option 1 i.e. 16.5

Number of girls = 35% of 1400 = 490.

Number of boys = 1400 - 490 = 910.

80% of the boys and 90% of the girls passed an annual examination,

Total passed student = 80% of 910 + 90% of 490 = 728 + 441 = 1169.

Total failed student = 1400 - 1169 = 231.

% of failed student = 231/1400 × 100 =  16.5%
