The sum of the present ages of a father and his son is 100 years. 10 years ago from present, their ages were in the ratio of 3 : 1. What will be the respective ratio of the ages of father and son after 12 years from present?

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: A

Explanation

Father + Son = 100
Ratio 10 years ago = 3 : 1
Let the ages 10 years ago be 3x and x.
Father = 3x + 10
Son = x + 10
(3x + 10) + (x + 10) = 100
4x + 20 = 100
4x = 80
x = 20
Current Ages:
Father = 3x + 10 = 70
Son = x + 10 = 30
After 12 years:
Father = 82
Son = 42
Ratio = 82 : 42 = 41 : 21
