SSC Selection Post - Graduation Level - 29th August 2025 - Shift 1 • Reasoning • Q97

The sum of the ages of a mother and her son is 50 years. In five years, the mother will be three times her son's age. What is the son's current age?

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: A

Explanation

Let the son's current age = x years.

Then the mother's age = 50 − x years.

After 5 years:

Mother's age = 55 − x

Son's age = x + 5

According to the question,

55 − x = 3(x + 5)

55 − x = 3x + 15

40 = 4x

x = 10
