The sides of a triangle are in the ratio 4 : 6 : 8. The triangle is a/an:

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: B

Explanation

The correct answer is Option 2. i.e. obtuse-angled.

Ratio of sides of triangle = 4 : 6: 8

In an obtuse-angled triangle, the sum of the squares of the smaller sides of the triangle is less than the square of the larger side.

Let the sides of the triangle be 4x, 6x and 8x respectively.

Sum of the squares of smaller sides = (4x)2 + (6x)2 = 16x2 + 36x2 = 52x2

Square of larger side = (8x)2 = 64x2

⇒ 52x2<64x252x^2 < 64x^2

Hence the given triangle is an obtuse angled triangle.
