The savings of Surbhi are 16% of her expenditure. If her income increases by 35% and the expenditure increases by 38%, then by what percentage do her savings increase/decrease?

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: D

Explanation

The correct answer is option 4 i.e. Increase by 16.25%.

Let expenditure = 100

Then savings = 16% of 100 = 16

So, income = 100 + 16 = 116

Now, income increases by 35%:

New income = 116 × 1.35 = 156.6

Expenditure increases by 38%:

New expenditure = 100 × 1.38 = 138

New savings = 156.6 – 138 = 18.6

Change in savings = 18.6 – 16 = 2.6

% change = 2.6162.6 \over 16 × 100 = 16.25%
