The salary of a typist was first raised by 20% and then the same was reduced by 15%. If the typist presently draws Rs.1,224, what was his/her original salary?

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: C

Explanation

The correct answer is Option 3 i.e. Rs.1,200.

Let the salary of the typist = x

Increment in salary = 20%  i.e. means the salary becomes 65\frac{6}{5}  of the original.

A reduction of 15% means the salary becomes 1720\frac{17}{20} of the increased amount.
x×65×1720=1224x \times \frac{6}{5} \times \frac{17}{20} = 1224

x = 1224×5×206×17=1224×100102=₹1200\frac{1224 \times 5 \times 20}{6 \times 17} = \frac{1224 \times 100}{102} = ₹1200
