The salaries of P and Q together amount to ₹9,60,000. P and Q save 64% and 44%, respectively of their individual salaries. If P’s expenditure is 1.5 times Q’s expenditure, then what is the ratio of P’s salary to Q’s salary?

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: B

Explanation

The correct answer is option 2 i.e. 7 : 3.

Let P's salary be x and Q's salary be y.

P saves 64% of their salary.

So P spends 100% - 64% = 36% of their salary

Q saves 44% of their salary.

So Q spends 100% - 44% = 56% of their salary

Expenditure of P = (36/100)x = 0.36x

Expenditure of Q = (56/100)x = 0.56y

Now, 0.36x = 1.5 × 0.56y

⇒ x/y = (1.5 × 0.56)/0.36 = 7/3

Therefore, the ratio of P’s salary to Q’s salary is 7 : 3.
