Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: C

Explanation

The correct answer is Option 3 i.e. 144.

The ratio of the two numbers is 9 : 5

If 8 is added to the larger number and 4 is subtracted from the smaller number, the greater number becomes twice the smaller number.

Let the numbers 9H and 5H respectively.

According to the question -

(9H + 8) = 2 × (5H - 4)

9H + 8 = 10H - 8

10H - 9H = 8 + 8

H = 16

The larger number = 16(9) = 144
