The ratio of the number of boys in a school to the total number of boys and girls in that school is 7 : 17. If the number of boys in that school is 1099, then how many girls are there in that school?

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: A

Explanation

The correct answer is option 1 i.e. 1570.

Let the number of boys and the total number of boys and girls in that school be 7x and 17x

Now,

Number of girls in that school = 17x - 7x = 10x

According to the question;

⇒ 7x = 1099

⇒ x = 157

Hence, the number of girls in that school = 10x

⇒ 10 × 157 = 1570
